Dancing Lessons

Suggested for ages 13 and up. Mild Sexual Content. One hour and ten minutes with no intermission.

Ever, an awkward professor with Asperger’s Syndrome, seeks dancing lessons from his neighbor, Senga, an out of commission Broadway dancer. As the unlikely relationship unfolds, the two make hilarious and heartwarming discoveries about themselves and each other.

For Current Kindergarten through 5th Graders

Virginia Rep's Children's Theatre at Willow Lawn
April 10 - 14, 2017

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (extended day options available)

Each day will be filled with creative drama, music and dance in addition to a mix of theatre related arts and crafts inspired by our production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. On the last day campers will perform selections from the show for family and friends on the Children's Theatre stage!

Ella at 100

Ella at 100

Presented by Richmond Jazz Society and Virginia Rep

Celebrating the 100th birthday of Ella Fitzgerald, a native of Newport News, Va.  Award winning Jazz singer and actor, Desirée Roots will perform 2 sets of Ella’s most noted songs accompanied by some of Richmond’s most acclaimed Jazz musicians. Joining her on stage will be Scott Wichmann as Frank Sinatra, Billy Dye as Louis Armstrong, and Anthony Cosby as Nat “King” Cole.

VIP Patron Seats

Stage Explorers 2017

Stage Explorers Camp

For Rising 1st - 6th Graders

Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.*
at Virginia Rep's Children's Theatre

Each day includes drama, music, dance and a production craft taught by Virginia Rep's theatre professionals and educators. The Stage Explorer campers are divided into three groups by grade level (or age) for the majority of their activities, but come together in rehearsals for the showcase-style performance at 4:00 on the final Friday afternoon. Stage Explorers is a fun and engaging camp for both the novice and experienced young performer.

The Little Engine that Could is a classic story of optimism and hard work that will delight young theatre-goers. Based on the 1906 sermon by Reverend Charles S. Wing, children will follow along with the little locomotive as he bravely puffs faster and faster “I think I can, I think I can”.

Young Performers Institute

Young Performers Institute participants receive professional instruction and coaching in a wide variety of intensive acting classes as well as seminars on special topics. YPI takes place at the Virginia Rep Center in downtown Richmond, allowing greater access to the professional facilities.

Musical Theatre Skills Intensive - Masterclass Series

For rising 3rd - 8th graders

Monday - Friday, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
at Virginia Rep’s Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn

These one week intensives are designed for the aspiring performer interested in sharpening all three of their musical theatre skills - acting, voice, and dance. Parents will be invited for a short demonstration on the last day of each week for a peek into what the participants have been practicing. Each week in the series is a self contained experience with different Master Instructors and new material. Sign up for one week, a couple weeks, or all four!

Dramatic Adventures 2017

Dramatic Adventures Camp

For 3 to 5 year olds

The ideal first theatre camp for your preschool aged child. Through creative drama the campers learn how to use their Performers Tools: bodies, voices, and imaginations to tell stories. Each morning includes story drama, music & movement and a craft. The campers will have the opportunity to share what they learned throughout the week with family and friends on the last day at 11:30.
